Spay Neuter Network to Offer FREE Spay/Neuter and Preventive Care for Cats in San Antonio in Honor of Maria Rita Molnar
Spay Neuter Network (SNN) will host a special day of FREE CAT spay/neuter surgeries and preventive care on Tuesday, February 10, at its San Antonio clinic, in memory of the life and legacy of Maria Rita Molnar, a lifelong cat lover whose compassion for animals spanned generations. During this event, owned and community cats will receive free spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, FVRCP vaccination, and one month of flea prevention.
The day is made possible through a $5,000 matching gift given in Molnar’s memory during last year’s Giving Tuesday. Thanks to the generosity of San Antonio donors who met the match, SNN is able to fund two dedicated cat days this year, focused on lifesaving prevention.
Molnar was born in Italy and lived through World War II as a child, an experience that shaped her lifelong appreciation for the comfort animals can bring. Throughout her life, Mohler shared her home with many cats, and a few dogs, but her bond with animals was especially strong with her beloved cat Punkin, a former stray who became her “soul cat” and even served as a blood donor for other feline patients. At age 87, Mohler adopted Cutes, a 20-year-old cat, giving her a loving home for the final years of her life.
Mohler was always deeply troubled by the number of kittens and cats without homes and believed strongly that prevention through spay and neuter programs was the most humane and effective way to address overpopulation. “Maria understood that the most compassionate way to save lives is through prevention,” said Jacob Carty, Interim Executive Director of SNN. “Her gift removes a financial barrier that too often stands between families and the care their cats need.”
The San Antonio clinic is located at 210 Tuleta Dr. in Brackenridge Park. Appointments are required, and space is limited. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit www.spayneuternet.org or call 972-472-3500.
Pet owners may also request additional items or services, including flea and tick preventatives or heartworm testing and preventatives, at an additional cost.
