San Antonio: Texas' First Hollywood?
San Antonio: Texas' First Hollywood?
As a city known for its rich history, one largely unknown piece is San Antonio's significance in early filmmaking. Gaston Méliès, the forgotten older brother of A Trip to the Moon director Georges Méliès, lived in San Antonio and produced dozens of films capturing landmarks like The Alamo and Missions. These films went on to be some of the first Westerns and were screened in theaters in Europe and all over the world. Learn all about Méliès's work in the city from expert and filmmaker Raphaël Millet Monday August 23rd at the Radius Center. The program includes a discussion from Millet, viewing footage from some of Gaston's silent films, and a subsequent Q&A.
