Latina Spring Film Series: Valentina or the Serenity

The Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI) and MonteVideo celebrate Women’s History Month with Latina Spring, a curated selection of inspiring films by Latina and Indigenous women directors! Presented in partnership with UNAM and American Indians of Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (AIT SCM), these special screenings spotlight Texas filmmakers Jackie Barragan and Robie Flores, and Mexican filmmakers Ángeles Cruz and Samantha Ramirez.

Join us on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at UNAM San Antonio, 600 Hemisfair Plaza Way, for Valentina or the Serenity!

TIME: Doors open at 6:30 PM; Film begins at 7:00 PM
COST: FREE!
PARKING: Free parking is available after 5 PM at South Alamo St. Lot and Martinez St. Lot. Paid parking is available at the Hemisfair Garage at 623 Hemisfair Blvd.

When Valentina loses her father in a river accident, she will not accept his death, and looks for him everywhere. A story of mourning, growth, and discovery.

About Ángeles Cruz: A Ñuu Savi woman from Mexico creating projects mainly in the community from which she originates, Ángeles Cruz has garnered recognition and rewards throughout her career from various festivals around the world. In 2021, her feature film debut Nudo Mixteco won the Mexican Academy Award for best first feature. Valentina or the Serenity is her second feature.
