Join San Antonio Parks & Recreation In Conversation with Gil Coronado, Padrino of Hispanic Heritage Month.
San Antonio born and raised, Gil Coronado led the efforts on a national stage to expand Hispanic Heritage Week to the now month-long celebration under President Regan in 1988. Mr. Coronado dedicated 29 years of service to the United States Military, rising to the rank of Colonel and earning over 35 awards and decoration, including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. He was appointed as the Director of the Selective Service System in 1994 by President Clinton, becoming the System’s first Hispanic Director.
