Join TPR on Feb. 10, online on TPR's Facebook page, for Great SA: The Mexican American Civil Rights Movement in San Antonio, a community conversation that about the organizations, leaders, and landmark lawsuits that helped shape Mexican American and Chicano activism. Initiatives like Southwest Voter Registration Project, Mexican American Youth Organization, the Raza Unida Party, MALDEF and many more have roots in San Antonio. Inspired by that legacy, the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute - MACRI was established at OLLU - Our Lady of the Lake University in 2019. On Wednesday, Feb. 10, David Martin Davies and his guests will contemplate the city’s role as a wellspring for far-reaching policy change and look to the future of the movement. Guests include Dr. Jerry Gonzalez with UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio, Fatima Menendez with Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Dr. Sarah Zenaida Gould, the interim executive director of the newly-established Mexican American Civil Rights Institute - MACRI. Great SA is TPR's community conversation about the history and culture that makes San Antonio and south Texas great.
