Goddard Day

Goddard Day

Join St. Mary’s University as we prepare to celebrate Goddard Day, an event honoring Dr. Robert H. Goddard, widely regarded as the father of modern rocketry.

What Is Goddard Day?

Goddard Day is observed each year on March 16 to commemorate Dr. Goddard’s successful launch of the world’s first liquid-fueled rocket in 1926. This historic achievement laid the groundwork for modern space exploration, satellites, and aerospace innovation. Today, Goddard Day is recognized by STEM institutions, educators, and organizations as a time to celebrate scientific curiosity, experimentation, and the power of bold ideas.

Why This Year Is Special

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Dr. Goddard’s historic rocket launch, making Goddard Day a once-in-a-century milestone. To honor this moment, St. Mary’s University will host a community-wide celebration, open not only to high school and college students, but to anyone interested in rockets, space, innovation, and learning more about the science that shaped the modern space age.

Locations will be the first floor of Moody LS and Richter Math for multiple events.
