Film Screening: Eastern Front

Film Screening: Eastern Front

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the UTSA Honors College welcomes filmmaker Vitaliy Mansky to screen his film Eastern Front, a documentary film about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Eastern Front has two authors. Vitaly Mansky and Yevhen Titarenko. On February 24, 2022, Yevhen Titarenko didn’t have to puzzle over what he should do. He went to the front. And from the first minute of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, he began to record everything that surrounded him: his own feelings when the first rockets began to bomb his city; tens of thousands of refugees in a hurry to leave their homes, creating endless traffic jams at city exits; and the friends with whom he went to war – a war which had progressed to the threshold of his own house in Kyiv. Mansky filmed in Western Ukraine - in a village where relatives of Titarenko and his comrades-in-arms were evacuated. Shocking from the first to the last frame, the contrast of two realities is the filament of the "Eastern Front".

This visit to UTSA is part of the Cultural Center “Our Texas", who is presenting films as part of its 16th Annual Texas Documentary Showcase which will take place across Texas universities from October 30 – November 3, 2023.
