TAKING PART IS EASY
Find data collection events (bioblitzes) and make observations, or join an iNaturalist project for your area and contribute observations on your own. You don’t have to attend an event to participate; observations can be made from your own backyard, a local park or any other outdoor location. Your participation helps showcase local biodiversity and contribute valuable information to science all while enjoying nature!

CITY NATURE CHALLENGE
Started in 2016, the CNC has grown into an international event. In 2024, 83,000 participants across 690 cities in 51 countries documented more than 2.4 million wildlife observations. Participants document their sightings by uploading photos or sounds, and making notes about discovered species. The observation period is followed by several days of identification and then the winners are announced on May 5th.
In 2024, San Antonio Metro was FIRST in the US in observations (64,728) and 11th in observers (1,320). Recruit your friends, family and others to help us reach our 2025 goal of 2,025 observers!
INATURALIST
The iNaturalist app enables users to observe, record, and share observations of plant, animals, fungi and other organisms in the natural world. Species identification is assisted by AI and verified by iNat’s online community of users including professional scientists and expert naturalists. Thanks to citizen scientists such as yourself, iNaturalist is the world’s most comprehensive database of biodiversity!
