Camerata San Antonio continues its 2020-2021 season online March 28 with Treasure, featuring Camerata's String Quartet in two works composed by artists deeply influenced by the music of their homelands. Romantic Norwegian Edvard Grieg, best known for In the Hall of the Mountain King, uses folk tunes and styles in his quartet. Florence Price, the first female African-American composer to have her work performed by a major US orchestra (the Chicago Symphony), incorporates melodic material reminiscent of spirituals and the African-American church into her quartet. It reminds the listener of Dvorak and his use of spirituals (the New World Symphony), but in her own unique and engaging voice.
