The Heart of Texas Concert Band will begin the year 2023 with our Children’s Concert. In addition to works that will charm the heart of both young and old, we will feature a guest composer/conductor, William Owens (http://www.fjhmusic.com/authors/William-Owens.php), who will conduct the world premiere of “Big Bend,” a suite of tone portraits of the national park written for solo bassoon and concert band. We will give our audience members a light-hearted introduction to the instruments of the symphonic band in a performance of Robert Jager’s “Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann,” and “Downbeat,” a tongue-in-cheek tale recounting how conductors came to use a baton when conducting. Everyone will enjoy “Over the Rainbow” from Harberg & Arlen’s score to The Wizard of Oz.
