The Hemisfair area will be full of people and music and the smells of exotic foods Saturday for the Asian Festival. And the Institute of Texan Cultures' James Benavides says the scope of won't just be limited to the cultures of the orient.

"When we talk Asian Festival, we are going from the Pacific Islands — the Philippines, Japan and Korea — to mainland China and the South China Sea and Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia,” he said. “(This year), even our Turkish friends are coming out to Asian Festival."

IF YOU GO What: Asian Festival Where: Institute of Texan Cultures When: 10 a.m. ‘til 5 p.m. Saturday Cost:  $10

Festival foods will range from Korean barbecue to Indian curries to an Asian libation station, which features Asian beers and Sake tasting, Benavides said.
The yearly Asian Festival, which draws tens of thousands of people to the sprawling ITC grounds, also features two stages for dance and entertainment, Benavides said.

“The dancers, the drummers, Chinese orchestra, there are so many wonderful things,” Benavides said. “And of course, there's the martial arts demonstration area in the back, and to see the power, the grace, the fluidity of some of these martial arts is amazing.”
