A fascinating gallery opening, an artful movie and Buddy Guy. There's a lot to do this weekend; this is just a snapshot. First off tonight--a photographer with a curiously titled exhibition.
"Miles per hour" Adam Rodriguez laughed. He and Jim Glasscock did something really unusual last year.
"He and I decided to ride our bikes from the Canadian Border in Montana, back to Rock Springs, where he's from."
Adam took pictures the entire way. The journey up and down mountains, traveling the Continental Divide, averaged about 9 miles per hour, so that's the exhibit title at the Ben Mata Contemporary gallery. Content runs the gamut. Adam points out, "there was another image that I liked--there was this old motor lodge with a Dodge parked out front."
2400 miles worth of photographs opens tonight, and runs through September. Adam concludes, "It was brutal at times, but it was a really good trip."
Also tonight at the San Antonio Museum of Art, Leslie Tolbert tells us about Film on the Green:
"Film on the Green is an outdoor film series we do at the museum, where Slab Cinema comes out; they have their portable blow-up screen and sound system. And then you can bring a picnic and lawn chairs or blanket and come out to our lawn, and just spread out and watch a film."
They're showing Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.
Tolbert says "We're going to be doing a couple of gallery talks beforehand as well in the special exhibition Heaven and Hell where we tie aspects of the film to the exhibition."
If it feels like you've lived this scene before--SAMA had this film scheduled last week. Which is pretty humorous, given the film's recurring story line.
"Absolutely!" exlaims Tolbert. "It was kind of comical that we had to re-schedule due to weather."
The movie's free, the gallery talks come with the price of admission to SAMA. Then tonight at the Aztec Theater, Buddy Guy! One of the blues biggest icons brings with him a taste of Chicago.
