Music, Music, Music: The Weekend's Here!

This weekend is full of music of all kinds around the area.

"This Sunday is the opening recital for the Piano Competition."

Dr. Anna Armstrong is talking about the San Antonio International Piano Competition happening all this week at Trinity University's Ruth Taylor Recital Hall.

"And we will feature Ms. Lo-An Lin, who was the Gold Medalist from 2012.  For this year's competition we had 98 applicants from 21 countries."

The top 12 of those 98 will be playing this Sunday through next Sunday, and the Gold Medal winner plays the last performance of the week-and-one-day event.

"These are some of the most exciting of the world's new young pianists that are rising stars."

Also here in town, have you been to Tex Pop? Margaret Moser explains the South Texas Popular Culture Museum's purpose.

"So, that we could interpret and preserve the history of South Texas and San Antonio music."

And on Sunday afternoon they're featuring a major event.

"We have two showings of the Doug Sahm film that was directed by Joe Nick Patoski."

Patoski's documentary Sir Doug and the Genuine Texas Cosmic Groove details Sahm's life.

"Doug really is the guiding light of Tex Pop, I believe," she said.

And then there's the music happening Sunday afternoon.

"We're going to have Mitch Webb and the Swindles, and then Rosie Flores with her special guest Patricia Vonne.  Along with that we have a wonderful photo exhibit from a photographer named Joel Aparicio. He captured a lot of our musicians in their younger days in the '70s and the '80s."

Also this weekend through next the Kerrville Folk Festival up in Kerrville.  The festival is one of the nation's largest and longest-running folk festivals, having run since 1972.
