SAY Sí, nonprofit after-school program that helps kids realize their creative dreams through various arts, begins their holiday production this weekend.
"'Frankie and Elisabeth Get Their Wings' is an original rock 'n' roll holiday musical, written and produced by SAY Sí’s ALAS Youth Theater Company" said Theater Arts Director Joel Settles. "It’s a great holiday show for the whole family -- teenagers especially will identify with it. We adapted it from the basic storyline of 'It’s a Wonderful Life,' and we set it in modern day San Antonio at a local high school, and we’ve got some great songs in it, some great numbers and it’s got a really, really good message."
The plot line runs like this: Elizabeth is an overachiever whose efforts and home life hit some major snags. Frankie is the teen angel who comes down to get her through it. A live rock 'n' roll band provides music as the play unfolds.
"You can catch 'Frankie and Elisabeth Get Their Wings' here at SAY Sí," Settles said. "The show opens this Friday, December 13. It runs Saturday night as well at 7:30 and we’ve got a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m."
Children 17 and under are free and adults are $10, proceeds benefit SAY Sí. And as Settles points out, "There’s nothing like a live theatrical experience."
Performances are at SAY Sí, 1518 South Alamo Street.
