Floodwaters continue moving downstream along the Nueces River Friday, creating dangerous conditions in Zavala County as communities brace for additional flooding.
Residents along Curtis Bourne Road near Crystal City have been told to evacuate after officials warned floodwaters are expected to reach homes in the area.
The Zavala County Sheriff's Office is also urging residents near the river, particularly in the Averhoff Landing and Chula Vista subdivisions, to prepare for possible flooding as water levels continue to rise.
The National Weather Service forecasts major flooding near Asherton, southwest of Crystal City. Forecasters warn the river could spread more than a mile wide, inundating Farm-to-Market Road 190 and making Highway 85 impassable.
Officials urge residents to monitor updates from the Zavala County Sheriff's Office, follow evacuation instructions if issued, and never drive through flooded roadways.
