California

In California - a state with strong differences with the White House on immigration policy - about 400 troops are on border duty. But they're keeping a low profile.

The Bureau of Land Management has partnered with Team Rubicon - a veterans group - to train former service members to fight wildfires.

California has become the eighth state to legalize recreational marijuana.  But using the drug can still end a military career.

California is restricting publicly funded travel to four more states because of recent laws that California leaders view as discriminatory against gay and transgender people.

All totaled, California now bans most state-funded travel to eight states – including Texas.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott this month signed a law that allows child welfare providers to deny adoption because of “sincerely held religious beliefs,” a provision that critics interpreted as permitting adoption agencies to deny services to same sex married couples
