Court records say Davion Irvin told police that he jumped a zoo fence after dark, cut the metal mesh of a tamarin monkey enclosure and took the two emperor tamarin monkeys before escaping by train.

The disappearance of two emperor tamarins was the culmination of suspicious events at the Dallas Zoo in recent weeks. The CEO of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums calls it a learning moment.

Police believe the monkeys were taken from their enclosure — the latest in a string of mysterious incidents at the zoo.

Zookeepers noticed the roughly 25-pound leopard was missing from the zoo early Friday morning. They believe the animal is still on the premises.
