Bexar County Democratic Party Chair Monica Alcantara speaks with members of the party in front of the Bexar County Courthouse.

The chair of the Bexar County Democratic Party has requested an FBI investigation into what she says are financial discrepancies that took place before she took office last summer.

She claimed members of the party’s executive committee mismanaged funds and committed money laundering.

Bexar County Democratic Party Chair Monica Alcantara accused at least two members of the party’s executive committee of withholding information, financial records and documents.

“They continue to deny me the bank statements and supporting documents to help determine the legality, the purposes of payments and taxing implications of hundreds of thousands of dollars of contributions and expenditures,” she said at a press conference Wednesday.

She alleged the mismanagement included unreported cash transactions, illegal cash disbursements and forgery.

Alcantara said she consulted with the Bexar County district attorney and Bexar County sheriff. She then presented the information to the FBI.

When reached for comment, an FBI statement said, “The FBI acknowledges receipt of this information. Pursuant to FBI and DOJ policy, we neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation.”

Texas Public Radio reached out to former party chair Manuel Medina for comment but he did not respond.
