With a runoff election just days away, the domestic violence advocacy organization Mētù is calling for an investigation into a missing police report that involves mayoral candidate and city councilman Greg Brockhouse.
At a Wednesday press conference across from city hall, Mētù organizers voiced skepticism about Brockhouse’s denial of an alleged domestic violence incident in 2009.
A police report detailing the incident was uncovered by the Express-News earlier this spring. It indicates that Brockhouse’s wife, Annalisa, called police on Dec. 23, 2009, and stated that her husband grabbed her and threw her to the ground.
That report has since disappeared from police files, and the Brockhouses have repeatedly denied its authenticity. There is no record that Brockhouse was arrested or charged in the incident.
"Greg Brockhouse has claimed that the incident described in the report never happened, that he had no knowledge of the police report or how it disappeared,” said Ellen Riojas Clark, co-founder of Mētù. “Curiously, he has not denied that law enforcement came to his home on the night in question.”
Clark said she questions whether there was a cover-up.
"It is a fact that Brockhouse worked for several years for the SAPD Officer Union, also known as the SAPD Police Officer's Association,” she said. “At issue is not just that a mayoral candidate is alleged to have committed domestic violence, but the public confidence in San Antonio’s Police Department. Did someone within the department purposefully and illegally delete all records of it?”
Mētù has requested that the San Antonio Police Department Internal Affairs Unit, the Bexar County District Attorney Public Integrity Unit and the Texas Rangers Public Corruption Unit look into the matter. Letters were sent to all three organizations.
Brockhouse said in a statement that Mētù is a political organization working in service of Mayor Ron Nirenberg, his opponent, who is seeking reelection.
