9 Things You Need To Know About The Texas Democratic Convention

The Texas Democratic Convention begins Thursday, June 16. Here’s 9 things you need to know:

1.Some 10,000 to 12,000 Democrats are expected for the annual three-day convention this year -- the largest Democratic convention in the country.

2.It's being hosted at the Alamodome on the city's East Side.
3.Some 9,400 delegates will be chosen from 254 Texas counties. Each delegate will get a chance to vote to adopt the party's platform, elect party officials and the members for the Democratic National Committee.
4.The Democratic Party can boast members who include President Lyndon Johnson, Sam Rayburn, Barbara Jordan, former Texas Governor Ann Richards, Joaquin and Julian Castro and Wendy Davis.
5. A couple of hours after Thursday night's opening reception at La Villita, Democrats will share in an Iftar with the Muslim Democratic Caucus at Maverick Plaza. An Iftar is the meal that breaks the fast that Muslims maintain for the 29 days of Ramadan.

6. Among the slate of speakers, there is high interest in U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela, D-Brownsville, after he made national headlines earlier this month taking Trump to task over the whole border wall idea.
