Bexar County Democrats, closely watching the results of today's runoff race, saw Barbara Gervin-Hawkins hang on to her early lead and win the race to become the Democratic candidate for the Texas House District 120 seat.
Gervin-Hawkins is the likely successor to Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon who represented the East Side of San Antonio for more than two decades and retired earlier this year after serious health problems. There is no Republican running for the seat.
Democrats also chose Javier Salazar to face Republican Sheriff Susan Pamerleau in November.
In Texas House District 73, which includes portions of Kendall and Comal counties, incumbent Republican Doug Miller of New Braunfels lost his seat to challenger Kyle Biederman.
