Bexar County is taking the initiative to reach out to the community and educate people about the Zika virus.

Bexar County Public Information Officer Laura Jesse introduced the plan to Commissioners Court on Tuesday.

They will be distributing materials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at county facilities and through San Antonio Water System.

“SAWS has allowed up to include a short article in the insert that goes out in the May bills,” said Jesse. “So that will reach approximately 285,000 households and then we’ll also ask neighborhood associations HOAs and anybody else that has a newsletter to consider including the article in there.”

They’re also considering providing insect repellent with a county seal and refrigerator magnets to remind people about precautions.  The plan has a maximum budget of $85,000.
