Arevalo reacts to election day numbers as they push her over 52 percent of the vote

Texas House District 116 will have Diana Arevalo as its representative in January. Arevalo, the executive director of a non-profit, finished with 53 percent of the vote early this morning.

With three new political candidates, the race was predicted to go into a run-off. During her early lead Tuesday night, Arevalo said voters want someone who is born and raised in the district.

“The fact that they spoke up and they came out and they showed support for me speaks volumes that they believe in having a representative that’s from the community that has done great things whether it was in Boston or Washington D.C. and came back wants to serve,”Arevalo said.  “That’s what the number’s show me tonight.”

Martin Golando finished second at 29 percent, and Ruby Resendez at 18 percent.  This is Arevalo’s first elected position. There is no Republican opponent in November. House District 116 covers parts of west and northwest Bexar County and is the seat being vacated by Trey Martinez-Fischer who made an unsuccessful bid at a state senate seat last night.
