Bexar County Commissioners Appoint Two New Judges

Bexar County

On Tuesday, Bexar County Commissioners appointed two people to positions on local court benches.

Commissioners began accepting applications for judge of County Court at Law No. 10 after Judge Irene Rios announced Nov. 5 that she was stepping down to enter the race for the Fourth Court of Appeals.

Commissioners appointed Tina Torres, who told the court she has worked on every type of civil matter the county court hears. Torres is a graduate of St. Mary’s Law School and has practiced civil litigation for 17 years.

Also appointed by commissioners yesterday was a new justice of the peace.

Commissioners earlier this month approved the redistricting of county justice precincts from which justices of the peace and constables are elected to conform to the boundaries of the County Commissioners’ precincts.

The redistricting left a vacancy, which commissioners filled by appointing Jack Price to the position of JP, Precinct 1, Place 2.

The court runs one of the county’s highest number of truancy cases through its docket, and commissioners said Price, who is a retired teacher and P.E. coach, has the right experience for the job.
