Lady Strings the Blues

Lady Strings the Blues

Lady Strings the Blues
Violinist Nicole Cherry, dancer Tanesha Payne, and pianist Aaron Prado join forces for Lady Strings the Blues, a vibrant performance where classical music meets the spirit of jazz and blues.
Through music, movement, and storytelling, the trio explores the deep connections between classical traditions and the roots of American blues and swing. The program features music by Stravinsky, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, William Grant Still, and Billie Holiday, highlighting Holiday not only as an iconic vocalist but also as a composer whose music helped shape the sound of twentieth-century America.

Joining them are some of San Antonio’s outstanding artists, including Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, Bill King (saxophone), Andrew Bergmann (bass), Joe Caploe (drums), and Jared Davis (guitar), alongside the UTSA Student Sound Machine.

Lady Strings the Blues celebrates the energy, history, and creativity of American music through a dynamic collaboration of sound, dance, and poetry.
