WHAT: Better Block Launch at Ella Austin Community Center

Together with you, The Better Block Foundation, WestCare Texas Foundation, and the Project Safe Neighborhoods organizations are working to make San Antonio a more vibrant place to live, work, and gather as a community. This community-led placemaking event is meant to reimagine the outdoor court of the Ella Austin Community Center. At this event, there will be vendors, performances, food, a movie, keynote speakers and more.

Furthermore, the international design non-profit Better Block Foundation is working with the health and human services non-profit WestCare Texas and the Department of Justice initiative Project Safe Neighborhoods to field community input and reinvigorate the Ella Austin Community Center. The activations and design of the community space will bring to life a shared vision for a more vibrant space through this placemaking demonstration. There is currently a call for volunteers and vendors including retail, food and performing artists.

WHY: As a result of engaging with project partners and the community to gather feedback and ideas to incorporate into the final design of the Ella Austin Community Center, the team will demonstrate their vision of a more vibrant and engaging public space bought to life including features such as a ground mural, seating, shade installation, and potential market/gathering space.
