A quiet Sunday church service was interrupted by gunfire when 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelly attacked the congregation of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs.
Twenty-six members of the church were killed, as well as the shooter, when he tried to escape the scene of the massacre.
Over the next 24 hours, there was a race to establish what happened, who the killer was and why he picked this isolated church in rural Texas, 45 miles east of San Antonio.
Texas Public Radio's David Martin Davies was one of the first reporters at the scene. Martin, fellow TPR reporter Joey Palacios and correspondents from National Public Radio worked together to deliver the facts from this horrific and the shocking event.
