A local arts organization is throwing a party and with the lineup of music, artists and events lined up, it should be interesting. The organization is Centro Cultural Aztlan and Malena Gonzalez-Cid runs it.
"We're a non-profit cultural arts agency that is dedicated to promoting and preserving our local culture and our local heritage."
Their facility features an art gallery in front, and Gonzalez-Cid says that the party they're throwing on Saturday will be a major one.
"Live entertainment with Los Nahualatos, Ghost Tracks, La Chichada, Ian Davis and the Big Dixons, Grupo Folklorico des Bendiciones, The Caravan Studios Belly Dancers, Liza Ybarra and of course, everyone knows Urban 15, Carnaval de San Anto."
Are they bringing their drums? Of course!
"Yep. They're bringing their drums and they're bringing their dancers. And we'll have a Poetry Corner called Voces Grandes, Hombres Necios."
Rough Translation: Big Voices and Foolish Men.
"Foolish or...obnoxious maybe," she laughed.
She says it's a full-blown family event with arts and crafts for the kids and several food trucks. It's held at the Fredericksburg-at-Fulton Avenue location, in what they call the Deco District. This party is actually a 10-year celebration of Centro Cultural Aztlan being in that location.
"In 2006 we introduced ourselves to this community with a community event and it was called El Gran Dia De Los Artistas. And this year in 2016 we're celebrating our first decade at the Deco. And we have invited back many of the performers and artists that were part of the first event. It starts at 3 p.m. and it goes on 'til 10 p.m."
If you're wonder whether this fits into your budget she says it won't cost you a dime.
"Zero, zilch, nada."
