There’s a chamber group playing around town that may have escaped your attention. They’re called the OlmosEnsemble, and in case you’ve missed them, here’s Martha Long on what they do.
“Olmos Ensemble is a chamber group comprised of the principle woodwinds, the principle horns and the concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony. And we usually play about five or six concerts throughout the year.”
Longm who is a flautist, says they have a focused objective.
"Our objective is to present high quality, engaging chamber ensemble performances throughout San Antonio, and hopefully in the next year we’d like to expand.”
She says the group wants to extend outside of San Antonio to other areas where there may not be a lot of classical music. They're playing Monday, Oct. 26.
“Yes, so Monday night is our Vive La France program. It is four works by three different French composers. And we’re actually featuring 10 different musicians from the San Antonio Symphony," Long said. "We’re doing two pieces of work by Maurice Ravel featuring our harpist, Rachel Ferris. We’re doing an octet by Jean Francaix. And then we’re also playing a horn quintet, for horn and string quartet by a French composer named Dauprat. It will be a great opportunity to share a little-known piece with our audience.”
The ensemble's Vive La France performance is at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church.
