Guitar fans and music lovers, there’s a program this Sunday you’ll want to know about. On Sunday, February 9, the UTSA Recital Hall hosts the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
The Quartet has been together for 33 years and have accumulated multiple awards, including a Grammy. The music they play runs the gamut from bluegrass to Bach to jazz, according to UTSA Music Professor and guitarist, Matt Dunne.
“There’ll be some world music, there’ll be Celtic music. I think there’s a Renaissance arrangement that’s in there and I think there’s some modern music," he said.
The concert will benefit the UTSA String Project.
“The String Project is a volunteer program that we started at UTSA in which we teach third, fourth and fifth graders around the city music lessons at very low cost," said Dunne. "And we involve our students in the teaching process, so that we’re providing a great experience or he kids, and for our own students."
I noted to Dunne that it sounds like a really great mentoring opportunity.
“It is, and actually, it’s great—you’re mentoring two generations," he said. "We’ve been around long enough now to where we’ve had students in our string project when they were third and fourth graders, and now teach in the String Project at UTSA and then go on to become professional teachers in the community."
