"Carnegie Hall Live" Returns This Month With Two Shows

The exciting “Carnegie Hall Live” series continues this month on KPAC 88.3 FM with two concerts, direct to you from America’s most famous recital hall.

On Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m., tune in to hear Michael Tilson Thomas lead the San Francisco Symphony, an orchetra lauded for their “fresh and daring” (The New York Times) approach to repertoire. The program finds an unexpected dialogue between American works and Viennese classics. Quintessential masterpieces for orchestra by Beethoven (“Leonore” Overture No. 3) and Mozart (Piano Concerto No. 25, featuring Jeremy Denk, in video below) are juxtaposed with the works of American composers Aaron Copland and Steven Mackey.

Then the following Monday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m., the period-music ensemble Arcangelo takes the stage for Handel’s mythological tale of unrequited love Apollo e Dafne, one of his most ambitious cantatas. Soprano Katherine Watson is joined by baritone Nikolay Borchev for the work. Opening the program will be Arcangelo’s dazzling interpretations of instrumental music of Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as his son, Johann Christian Bach.

During all “Carnegie Hall Live” broadcasts, hosts Fred Child and Jeff Spurgeon take you backstage and into the hall for conversation with the performers, and even the audience members, who are often called upon to answer the age-old question, how did they get to Carnegie Hall?

“Carnegie Hall Live” is also an interactive event! You’re invited to listen in online or at 88.3 FM, and join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #CHLive.
