Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones issued a disaster declaration Thursday morning. Jones told KUT News he filed the declaration at 9 a.m. as the Pedernales River reached near-historic highs after overnight and early morning flooding.
The declaration allows the county to more quickly take advantage of relief and recovery funding from the state. Ahead of the life-threatening flooding, Gov. Greg Abbott issued state disaster declarations on Wednesday for 59 counties in the path of the slow-moving front which has dumped 20 inches of rain on stretches of the Hill Country since Monday evening.
