Texas A&M team cared for the dogs that searched for victims

A program out of Texas A&M provided aid to the more than 50 rescue dogs in response to the Kerr County flooding.

Deb Zoran is the director of the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team. She explained the need for this program for disasters like this.

“I think every vet school should do this in some way, maybe not to the extent that we do it," she said. "Texas is such a big state, and we have so many disasters and so many counties and so many different kinds of things. In my opinion, every state needs to have this. Every veterinarian needs to know this. And every state needs to know how to do this.”

The program was just granted $5 million — which will go toward more fellowships and programs to teach veterinary medicine students how to be prepared to help animals in these disasters. Her team was deployed for 23 days in the Hill Country.
