Kerr County resident: We want 'a functioning government'

Local residents in Kerr County spoke out Thursday at a legislative hearing about recovery efforts following the devastating 4th of July floods.

Kylie Nidever is a life-long resident of Kerr County whose neighborhood sustained heavy damage during the floods.

She said she and other residents feel unsupported in the recovery efforts: "I have met no local county officials in Hunt or in my neighborhood, nor have I encountered anyone from the state. Those of us impacted by this catastrophe are not asking for handouts — we're asking for a functioning government."

Nidever said the county needs increased support in emergency funds from the state in debris removal, housing support and mental health care.

The organizations working together to help the flood victims said that the best way to help is with monetary donations.
