Kerr County commissioners on Monday took no formal action about setting the property tax rate for the coming year.
Slowing the property tax rate decision to fund the county's budget is knowing how much FEMA flood recovery dollars are coming to the county, especially for roads.
Commissioners were expected to hear update from FEMA on that issue on Monday afternoon.
The commissioners shot down talk of an 8% increase in the property tax rate to fund flood recovery and appeared in favor of keeping the property tax rate the same as last year.
The commissioners appeared to favor digging deep into county reserves and financing some road work to be able to hold the line on taxes.
Also complicating the property tax rate in the wake of the disaster are discussions of a 1 to 2-and-a-half percent increase in county employee wages.
County Judge Rob Kelly reminded commissioners that by state law he must submit his county budget by Friday but added budget tweaking could still continue. See other budget meetings and votes here.
The new county budget goes into effect on Oct. 1.
