County singers raise millions of dollars for flood relief

County singer George Strait raised millions of dollars for Hill Country flood victims at an intimate, one-night-only benefit concert in Boerne on Sunday.

The sold out-show at a $1,000-a-seat featured only 1,000 guests, including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. Greg Abbott. Local first responders were admitted for free.

The show featured a surprise appearance by fellow country music legend Garth Brooks.

The lineup also included performances by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, Wade Bowen, and Dean Dillon, who wrote many of Strait's hits, including "The Chair" and "Ocean Front Property."

Cruz tweeted that the event raised $6 million for the nonprofit Vaqueros Del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund.

Strait had said that the concert’s goal was to raise immediate support that can be put directly into the hands of flood victims without delay, while also honoring the first responders that worked tirelessly to save lives.

If people still want to donate, there is a link at georgestrait.com.

The organizations working together to help the flood victims said that the best way to help is with monetary donations.
