In the wake of deadly Texas floods, a Republican congressman from Texas is calling for better weather prediction tools.
Congressman Randy Weber represents Texas’ 14th Congressional District, which is on the Gulf Coast.
He explained to Houston Public Media's "Hello Houston" that he is co-sponsoring a bill that aims to expand the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s forecasting and alert capabilities.
“We want to be able to forecast things," he explained, "and we’ll roll in the Texas flood here, unfortunately — that happened in the middle of the night. A better system to get those kinds of warnings out, better systems for hurricane tracking, and even Tornado Alley.”
North Carolina Democratic Congresswoman Deborah Ross is also a co-sponsor of the bill. Her state saw catastrophic flooding last year in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
