Congressman Greg Casar said a federal audit into staffing shortages at the National Weather Service is coming.
Last week, the Austin Democrat called for an investigation into why some positions there and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which oversees the weather service, were vacant ahead of historic flooding in the Hill Country this month.
The two agencies have seen staffing losses after federal funding cuts from the Trump administration.
In a letter, the Commerce Department said it would begin an audit into staffing, pointing out that losses in forecasters at both agencies have been a concern since at least 2023.
