A coalition of Texas natural resources organizations and experts are calling for action following the deadly flooding.
The groups said that existing flood policies must be enforced and new policies must be adopted to understand the state's flood patterns, aquifer systems and watershed vulnerabilities.
The Cibolo Center for Conservation Contact is a member of the coalition, and Kel Hoffman is its land conservation director.
"This is flash flood alley, as has been said," Hoffman said. "This is the seventh occurrence of a fatal flood in the last 100 years. It's not a matter of if, but simply when. And we need to be able to protect the most vulnerable people in our communities."
The coalition called for the enforcement of land and water policies that protect floodplains and buffer zones and comprehensive watershed-wide planning.
