Gov. Greg Abbott said cell phone alerts were unreliable when it came to warning people near the town of Hunt about the threat of flooding on the Fourth of July.
"There is virtually no cell phone availability at any time," he said. "Cell phone warnings would have — I think they were triggered but they would have been largely irrelevant because of the inability for people to communicate.”
Abbott said communications issues during emergencies will be addressed when lawmakers go back to work next week.
