Texas is increasing the number of people who can buy hot meals with SNAP benefits in response to the flooding.
Usually, SNAP recipients cannot use the Lone Star Card to buy hot or ready to eat food. Last week, Texas received permission from the federal government to expand SNAP benefits to include hot meals in seven counties affected by flooding, including Kerr and Bandera.
The Texas Department of Health and Human Services said that it will expand those benefits to 26 additional counties, including Tom Green and Hays.
The temporary SNAP expansion for hot foods will last until Aug. 14. It does not change SNAP eligibility.
