FEMA: Residents who get 'not approved' letters are not necessarily denied assistance

FEMA is aiming to clarify eligibility decisions for Texans impacted by last month's deadly floods.

The agency said a letter marking applicants "not approved" for disaster assistance may not be a denial or a final decision.

Additional information or supporting documentation may still needed to verify identity, home ownership, and occupancy.

Other common reasons for denial include more than on application being filed for one household or damage being covered by insurance or other sources.

Residents can file to appeal FEMA decisions. Find more information at DisasterAssistance.com

The organizations working together to help the flood victims said that the best way to help is with monetary donations.
