Newcomers From Central America Face Bullying At School

Coming to a new school can be difficult for any student, but for young immigrants new to the country, it can be especially challenging. Over the past few years, Montgomery County in Maryland and the Metro D.C. region have experienced an influx of thousands of Central American youth. Many are traumatized by violence in their home countries, separation from family and the stresses of integrating into a new culture. As Armando Trull of Here & Now contributor WAMU reports, there’s evidence that some of the newcomers are being bullied verbally and physically in schools.
