"We are able to put babies skin to skin immediately following delivery," Parkes explained. "And we have no centralized nursery."

CHRISTUS New Braunfels is the first hospital in central and South Texas to be named a Baby-Friendly birth center, one of only 18 in Texas. It’s a global designation by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

Parkes said their facility is starting to become a destination for area expectant mothers. "We have moms coming in from San Antonio. We’ve had moms from Austin," she said.

This year the CHRISTUS New Braunfels hospital will deliver six to 700 babies.
