Texas Public Radio today announced that award-winning journalist Eileen Pace will be the permanent, local host for Texas Public Radio’s Morning Edition, which airs Monday through Friday from 4-9 a.m.

Pace stepped into the position following the departure of Crystal Chavez in January.

“TPR was prepared to conduct a national search for Crystal’s replacement, but we realized we had the most qualified candidate here among us,” said TPR News Director Shelley Kofler.

“Eileen has worked as a journalist covering San Antonio and the region for more than 20 years.  She has a deep knowledge of the issues, strong editorial judgment and a warm but authoritative delivery.  Listeners can feel confident in the news and information she’ll bring to their morning’s commute,” Kofler said.

Pace joined TPR’s news staff in 2010. She has also reported and anchored at radio stations in Houston, New Braunfels, and Austin.  She’s written for the San Antonio Express-News, San Antonio Business Journal, and Edible San Antonio.

Pace’s reporting at TPR has been honored numerous times and has been featured nationally on NPR programs including All Things Considered and Morning Edition.  In 2011, Pace’s five-part series on the transition of Kelly Air Force Base following national base realignments and closings earned an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award and a statewide award from the Associated Press.

Pace recently produced a nationally broadcast story about National Guard veterans in Texas who’ve had difficulty finding treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

“I have been honored and fortunate to cover our military both for TPR and for NPR’s “Back at Base” collaborative series.  TPR is one of only seven stations nationally chosen by NPR for this project. Shining a light on these stories is a way for me to offer a tribute of respect and gratitude to our service members,” Pace said.

“I am privileged now to step into a new role where I get to shine a light on the great work our journalists do every single day to bring our listeners stories that matter, stories that motivate, and stories that are just plain interesting.”

In addition to being heard on KSTX 89.1 FM in San Antonio, Pace’s hosting of Morning Edition is broadcast in the Hill Country on KTXI 90.1 FM, in Llano on KVHL 91.7 FM, and in Snyder, Texas, at 89.9 FM KTPR.
