There’s a walking art tour happening in Boerne this weekend, but it’s got a twist to it. That twist is its namesake. It’s called the Boerne Art Waddle. Here's the Waddle's creator Mary Morton.
“It’s called a Waddle because we have lots of ducks that come and go along the Cibolo Creek.”
The Cibolo Creek encircles the downtown neighborhood where the Art Waddle takes place—the Flats.
“Years ago when they were building the railroad a lot of the people who worked on the railroad lived in this area” she said.
“And it’s pretty flat.”
“And it’s kinda flat.”
“You’ve got—what? 30 artists?” I asked.
“No, this year we’ve got 50. We have more yards this year; we have 15 yards. You’ll get a different flavor at every yard.”
Fifty artists are displaying their works in those 15 yards, all within about a mile walking distance, or if you prefer, rent a bike.
“And they’re 3-wheel bicycles, so they have a basket. So you can buy art and tool around the neighborhood. It is on Saturday, May 9th, the day before Mother’s Day. It’s from 9 o’clock in the morning ‘til 4PM in the afternoon. Some houses will offer cocktails, some will not. Water will be available.”
The Art Waddle’s Facebook page shows pictures of the variety of art artists are showing.
“From Oil Painters, water colors, we even have one Fireman Cartoonist. We have a Potter, a wonderful Potter. Oh, we have woodworking this year. There’s water in the creek so bring your cameras, or bring your easels, or bring your chair.”
