A San Antonio psychologist-turned-playwright is teaming up with The Playhouse theater for a musical to benefit the homeless. You have two chances this week to enjoy "In Their Shoes," Wednesday and Thursday nights only.
The whole story is about empathy, and a pair of magic shoes that transports a little girl, Goody2Shoes, into a world where she can see what it’s like to be in another person’s shoes.
"So Goody2Shoes is a little girl who doesn’t understand, doesn’t have a clue about why people act the way they do," said Playwright Dr. Tova Rubin. "First we see her having a fight with her mom, and then Soulman appears and he essentially has this magic pair of shoes and introduces them to Goody. He tells her if she puts them on, she can be 'in the shoes' of whoever she chooses."
Rubin says the rhyming Dr. Seuss-style show is designed to help people – especially children – understand the importance of empathy.
There’s dancing and music that the audience will recognize. Rubin says kids as young as three and four year olds can understand the message, and it provides entertain for all ages.
Street 2 Feet helps get residents at the SAMMinistries Transitional Living Center into a running program – and literally get back on their feet. They are asking patrons to bring a gently-worn pair of shoes to the show to donate to someone in need.
The show starts at 6 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday at The Playhouse, with two 45-minute acts.
