Cedar Hill State Park, near Dallas, after recent flooding
Texas Parks & Wildlife

Low funding levels have for years left Texas Parks & Wildlife delaying maintenance on the state's more than 90 parks, but that is about to change.

A long-battled piece of legislation aimed at directing more sales tax from sporting goods purchases to Texas' parks passed and was signedby Gov. Abbott late last month.

State Rep. Lyle Larson (R-San Antonio) authored the bill and failed to get it passed in several legislative sessions before this one.

Where will these funds go? Have recent floods made these funds even more important?
