The scourge of Hepatitis C may be on its way out, or that is what doctors behind a new treatment are saying. Researchers are making the predictionthat the pernicious disease could be eradicated in 15 years with the right outreach.
We talked with Fred Poordad on the heels of the FDA approvingthe drug he helped develop in December of last year. His research proved the drug ledipasvir and sofosbuvir (ABT-450) 95 percent effective in a fraction of the time compared with Interferon, currently the most popular treatment.
Now having gone through even moreextensive testing, the results are holding up and even more have been cured of the debilitating disease. Dr. Fred Poordad helped develop the drug and presented findings from his most recent study at the International Liver Congress in London earlier this month.
Questions still exist about access to the drug due to its cost.
