Gov. Greg Abbott announced his office will provide $2.3 million to support the continued recovery efforts for survivors impacted by the Sutherland Springs church shooting.
The governor’s office says the funds will be used for continued legal services, mental health screenings and counseling from groups like San Antonio’s faith-based Ecumenical Center.
The group’s executive director Mary Beth Fisk said the money will allow them to expand counseling services already being provided to the Sutherland Springs community.
“The center has already established one location in Sutherland Springs. A second office with the help of the governor’s office will be established in La Vernia, Texas, which is a neighboring community,” Fisk said.
The grant would also provide state funding to the University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as four other South Texas organizations, committed to the community’s recovery.
